“We’re glad about Simona Halep’s great interest in Palermo Ladies Open, we’ll be waiting for her at the Country Club for an historic edition of the tournament”. That’s what Oliviero Palma, the tournament’s CEO, said to comment the Rumanian tennis player’s declarations to the international press. Halep, ranked world’s number 2 and winner, among others, of the 2018 Roland Garros and the 2019 Wimbledon, has confirmed her willingness to take part in the WTA International tournament at the Country Club.
“We’ve been in contact with Halep’s manager for some time – Palma said – and we’ve been talking for days about her potential participation in Palermo. She’s one of the very best in the world and her presence would contribute to make extraordinary an already high-level tournament. We’ll leave our doors open to her for as long as possible, as well as for other top ten that will want to resume their season in Palermo”.
The Main Draw for the 31st Palermo Ladies Open will be unveiled tomorrow. One who will come back to the Country is Jill Teichmann. The Swiss won last year’s edition by beating the favourite Kiki Bertens in a two-set match.
